Job Description Summary

An instructor to teach developmental English or reading courses for students in the Developmental Studies Department at A-B Tech. He/she possesses the knowledge and skills to teach and supervise students in the classroom.

Duties

Instruct all levels of developmental English or reading, day and/or evening classes, in traditional and hybrid formats within an 8 week mini-mester at the Asheville or A-B Tech South Campus. Contact hours per week ranging as assigned. Develop teaching materials and activities for each course. Responsibilities also include maintaining syllabi, gradebook, and attendance. Abide by policies, standards, goals, and objectives of the college and department. Participate in assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation activities, and faculty professional development to improve the instructional quality of the program. All adjunct faculty members will be evaluated according to these criteria.

Minimum Requirements

1. Bachelor’s in English or English Education.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Demonstrated expertise in teaching under-prepared English or reading students and an understanding of adult learning theories.
2. Prior community college teaching experience in developmental English or reading and experience with both Moodle and On Course principles.
3. Master’s degree in English, Reading, Education, or a related field.
