Job Description Summary

Plan and organize instructional activities for Law Enforcement Training of programming within the Criminal Justice Department.
Exhibit the knowledge, skills, and the ability to organize, schedule, and supervise the various law enforcement courses offered through continuing education. Demonstrate the versatility and expertise to work with a variety of area law enforcement agencies, classroom instructors, practical application instructors, college departments, and students.

Duties

1. Organize and schedule law enforcement courses through Continuing Education, including Mandatory In-Service Training (MIST), Law Enforcement Refresher Courses and any Law Enforcement related class requested by Law Enforcement Executive Officers such as Chief’s and Sheriff’s according to standards set forth from the NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission and the NC Sheriff’s Education and Training Standards Commission in accordance with the Department of Community Colleges regulations. Classes to be scheduled will include but not be limited to Basic Law Enforcement Training certification, Detention Officer Certification, Telecommunicator Certification or any new classes related to the law enforcement field;
2. Coordinate NC State Regional testing for Law Enforcement certified courses;
3. Assuring compliance with state rules, regulations, and laws pertaining to all law enforcement classes;
4. Accurately maintain program forms and records relative to law enforcement classes as mandated by the NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission and the NC Sheriff’s Education and Training Standards Commission and NCCCS;
5. Obtain instructional materials, supplies, and equipment for classes;
6. Distribute class materials and conduct monitoring visits to law enforcement classes;
7. Conduct assessment activities for registrants as needed;
8. Assist with job placement for program trainees as needed and/or requested;
9. Provide individual counseling time with students when needed;
10. Monitor classroom and clinical training to ensure on-going quality courses and instruction;
11. Assist the Director in developing, planning, implementing and administering goals and objectives of the assigned area;
12. Engage and inform the law enforcement community of new and/or enhanced program development and seeks strategic partnership opportunities for program delivery;
13. Increase public knowledge of the educational opportunities and services offered at A-B Tech;
14. Prepare documentation for the origination of classes; schedules dates, rooms and trainers/instructors. Evaluate schedule of courses for accuracy;
15. Maintain complete records in compliance with audit guidelines; ensures required records and documentation from students and trainer/instructor/staff are included for reporting;
16. Report continuing education hours and test results to state licensing agencies in accordance with prescribed guidelines;
17. Represent the program area and the college at meetings of professional organizations and serves on advisory committees, internal and external, as assigned;
18. Review the need for equipment, supplies and instructional materials and recommends purchases;
19. Performs other duties as assigned by the Program Director in accordance with NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission and the NC Sheriff’s Education and Training Standards Commission and NCCCS.

Minimum Requirements

1. High School Diploma;
2. Certified Law Enforcement Officer with active certification;
3. Five years of experience in a law enforcement supervisory role or project management role;
4. Seven years of experience as a law enforcement officer.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Eight to ten years of experience in a law enforcement supervisory role or project management role;
2. Fifteen to twenty years of experience as a law enforcement officer;
3. Experience coordinating training programs or a work-based training program;
4. Experience using a college information database.
